A Book Related Memory (JSBT #2) || Never Have I Ever Book Tag

Welcome back everyone, how has everything been for you all? Today I’ll be participating in Just Some Bibliophilic Things and another exciting book tag!

This week’s question: One book related memory that you love.

Ooh that’s a good one.

When I was Primary 2 (which is second grade I think? – I was 8 years old), we were required to do a show and tell of our favourite book. Naturally, I was extremely excited. But the catch was the presentation had to be in our mother tongue. For me, that is Chinese and back then, I was not all all fluent in Chinese! 😳 

I was considering choosing a book in Chinese such that it would be easier to talk about but stubborn me decided to go with my favourite book then which was Matilda by Roald Dahl. 📖 

As Matilda is in English, I had to write my speech and then translate the whole thing into Chinese which was a daunting task. Furthermore, I had to memorise the speech word for word due to my poor Chinese, which was nearly impossible for 8 year old me. 😥

Thanks to Google Translate and my persistence in wanting to share the love of my life, I managed to do so and delivered my speech, frequently stumbling over many words. 🤪

But the thing is I did it! And that was something I remember vividly. 😊

Never Have I Ever…read a later book in a series before reading the first book

No! or yes! (I beg your pardon, Ignorant me isn’t sure how to respond)

I unknowingly read Just Call My Name before I’ll be There by Holly Sloan. Which was JUST AWFUL because I was so confused, thinking that Just Call My Name was a standalone. And then I knew all the spoilers for the first book. 😕

Nah nah nah NOOO NEVER! NOT EVEN MY LITERATURE BOOKS AND REQUIRED READINGS WHICH I WAS QUITE ANNOYED AT…🚫

Never Have I Ever…read a book I knew I would hate

Erm yes eheheh… I read Allegiant, having an inkling that I would dislike it based on the first two books but I still did because I NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED however much the failed POVs which sounded the same deterred me.

Never Have I Ever…wrote a fanfiction about my favourite books

Unfortunately I’m not good at writing! So I have never done that.

However I can recommend an amazing fanfiction for Keeper of the Lost Cities fans which happens after Flashback but before Legacy on Wattpad called “Keeper of the Lost Memories”. It is so gripping and Keefe is as cool as ever. 😆

Never Have I Ever…loved a book when I was young, yet hated it when I got older

There are many MG and children’s books I still adore but I have grown out of many. I DO NOT hate any, The Rainbow Fairy series which I read centuries ago is just something I wouldn’t revisit again though I had much fun when I read it at a young age.

Never Have I Ever…hated a book by an author I love

Again, I don’t hate this one. But Catalyst compared to all of Laurie Halse Anderson’s books wasn’t that great, with me unable to connect to the protagonist while all of LAH’s books always made me emotional.

Nope! Errr I guess I did pretend to read a book I DNF-ed… does that count?

My addition: Never Have I Ever…saw the movie before the book.

Unfortunately, I am guilty towards my own prompt! I normally try not to haha. But I saw the movie A Dog’s Purpose and have not read the book! In my defence, I didn’t know it was based on a book. 🐶

Speaking of which the movie is really moving and reduced me into an ugly state of tears!
